Breakfast Briefing with Mr Joerg Wuttke, President Emeritus of EuroCham China

The future of European businesses in China was the focal point of SGC’s Breakfast Briefing with Mr Joerg Wuttke, President Emeritus of the European Chamber of Commerce in China. Mr Wuttke presented his analysis on China’s K-shaped post-COVID recovery curve with a focus on some industry sectors such as automotive and chemical industry. He also touched upon the vast regional differences in the economic and industrial trends within China.

Results of the recent Business Confidence Survey conducted by the European Chamber of Commerce in China have shown that 11% of the respondents have already shifted business activities out of China and an additional 20% are considering to do so, with ASEAN apparently becoming the region of choice. However, according to Mr. Wuttke, these developments do not negate the fact that still “the biggest risk is to not be in China”.
